=====
EROS, the third approved AMOR son (ds. Ulrich Sgldt x L'Invasion Sgldt) has, unlike the AMOR son Gondelier, mainly worked in dressage. EROS was bred by W. van Arkel from the northeastern polder, out of the famous Ulrich-daughter Areina. Ulrich was a Gelderlander stallion who was ahead of his time. He had the type of a riding horse, when the other stallions were still in the agricultural type. Unfortunately, Ulrich was not used enough.
EROS was a stallion with a beautiful forehand, a somewhat soft back and he was blessed with a best trot. EROS passed on those good movements to his offspring. Among his offspring is the dressage horse Tremor who was NKB Champion and later on competed in the Small Tour.
The significance of EROS for breeding is mainly in supplying good broodmares, with best movements, who passed that on to their offspring. One of the most famous daughters is Nina of Frans Verwegen from Volkel. She is at the beginning of a whole dynasty of powerful daughters, of which several keur mares with an AA-rating in the IBOP. The most famous is Alza (Afrikaner xx), who became national champion of the three year old mares in 1985. The daughters LIRIS, LILIUM and Ustrona are all stallion dams of UNIFORM, VARIANT and Bustron respectively.
EROS died after twelve breeding years in 1978. Only in the last years of his life he got to serve good mares. If his qualities had been discovered earlier, he could have done even more for the breeding of dressage horses.

=====
AMOR, a much-discussed 'Chef de Race
On May 6, 1989, a day before his thirtieth birthday, AMOR was honored as rarely a horse has fallen. A brass band, a singing choir, a parade of carriages escorted by riders, the local mayor, leading figures from the equestrian world, hundreds of breeders, a select group of sons and daughters, they were all there to add lustre to the unveiling of 'AMOR in bronze'.
And yet AMOR was not a stallion that excelled by supplying top sport horses. Taking into account the large number of offspring, his production of international sport horses is rather sparse. There are certainly some offspring that have performed well at a high level. However, their number is not abundant, from the large number of offspring some good ones had to come.
So why was AMOR such a popular and valuable stallion? Simply because he inherited qualities that are indispensable for sporthorses. He gave a lot of movement, temperament and running and also good legwork. Very typical was the front; expressive heads and well shaped necks that are proudly carried.
Absolutely no horses that were built on the forehand and that used all energy in the forward direction and because of that running on the forehand. The AMORs can naturally bring the hind leg underneath and rise in the forehand. An element not to be underestimated, that made Amor loved by Dutch breeders. The Dutch have always loved proud, proud horses that can trot impressively. AMOR and his children appealed to that centuries-old traditional Dutch feeling.Amor's popularity is therefore also partly based on subjective and aesthetic elements.
Because of their movements, posture and temperament, the AMORs should be predestined for dressage. And so they are. The AMORs walk, so to speak whistling, on a half horseshoe through the first classes of dressage. It hardly costs them exertion or effort. And they are. The AMORs walk, so to speak whistling, on a half horseshoe through the first classes of dressage. It hardly costs them effort or effort. They have naturally been given the physical equipment a dressage horse needs.
Vender
We should therefore expect to encounter many AMOR offspring in international dressage. But that turns out not to be the case. There aren't that many Amors that are above Z-dressage. One of them is Vender van NoГ«lle van der Lof-Smelt who competed IntermГ©diair I. Ulaleen competed with Adinda Geerink-De Hey in the DS trials at that time, the gelding Amoureux was Z-dressage and Z-jumping and was NKB champion but did not try it on higher levels. Years ago Christine StГјckelberger had a promising young AMOR, Opal, but we haven't heard from him anymore.
The ease with which the AMORs run through the lower dressage classes has resulted in a very high index for dressage until 1993. When calculating this index, until 1994, in order to avoid too great environmental influences, only the performance of four to eight year old offspring were taken into account.
In addition, what is the additional explanation why the AMORs did not advance in the higher dressage classes? Undoubtedly this will have to do with the character of the AMOR offspring. They are not only personalities, but they are also rather stubborn and do not allow themselves to be submissive and manipulated. In the lower dressage classes they can almost effortlessly perform because of their movement and posture and take their rider with them, so to speak.
At the higher levels it works the other way around and they need to work hard and then a flexible, editable character is necessary. With AMOR it is actually the other way around as with Doruto. With AMOR, all physical resources are present and with Doruto it is precisely the psychological factors that are decisive. The combination of these two stallions in a pedigree has proven to be successful.
Coming to the Netherlands
What were AMOR's backgrounds, how did he get to the Netherlands? J.K. Wiersma (again he) went to Holstein in 1961 looking for stallions that could give the breeding of the Groninger horse a more versatile usability. Especially the suitability as a riding horse had to be improved.
However, the board of the NWP was not yet convinced that foreign stallions had to be bought for this purpose.
Wiersema was interested in the stallions Porter, Polaris and Farn, but he was especially impressed by Heros, as AMOR in Holstein was called. However, he could not do business because of the attitude of the board.
Wiersema wrote a report of the Holsteiner inspection in the magazine "Het Paard" and placed a picture of AMOR with it.
That picture was the direct reason for the arrival of AMOR in the Netherlands: a committee of the Stallion Association Schagen from Noord-Holland, the late Mr. Blankendaal, was the great animator behind the purchase of AMOR, which was closed for F. 10.000. AMOR would come to the Netherlands for the inspection in Utrecht, but a flood in Schleswig/Holstein prevented this.
It took until March before AMOR came and so he was only approved for a handful of interested people at the old Utrechtse Veemarkt.
North Holland
After his arrival in the Netherlands, AMOR was covered in North Holland. He stayed there until 1969. The mares came from all over the country to visit him. Amor was a celebrated personality, a god of love.
In 1969 Amor was bought by Johan Venderbosch from Varsseveld. When AMOR was delivered, the tail and mane were not toilet-filled. Later it turned out what the reason was: he was difficult to get to the head. Later that was no longer an issue, one man could toilet him, but it took some time.
AMOR would stay in Varsseveld for the rest of his life until 1990. His statue also stands where he stood for twenty years for mating and where he got the recognition as the foundation and master builder of the Dutch breeding.
AMOR's father Herrscher was born in 1952 at the Swedish state stud Flyinge. As a three year old he was bought by the former Holstein LandgestГјt Traventhal. Herrscher has mated from 1952 to 1961 in Holstein. He gave the Holstein breeding 10 approved sons: Herfried, Hofnarr, Hector, Helgoland, Herwin, Hermelin, Heron, Heros (AMOR), Heribert and Herbald, who went to the Netherlands just like AMOR and was called Cavalryman here.
Heristal
Herrscher's Heristal was born in 1938 in the former East Prussian HauptgestГјt Trakehnen. He took part in the "Treck" to the West, a more than 1000 kilometers long journey full of hardships fleeing the Red Army.
In 1948, Heristal was purchased by Flyinge and bred there until 1963. He gave the Swedish breeding 17 sons of which some were sold to Denmark. One of them was Herzog, the father of Marzog, with whom Anne Grethe Jensen-Thörnblad celebrated great triumphs. They won the World Cup dressage in 1968, became European Champion in 1983 and second at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.
Heristal's sire is the famous foundation stallion Hyperion, who had a great influence on Trakehner breeding.
AMOR's dam Barba was by the influential stallion Loretto, who, like his sire Lorbeer, gave his offspring best movements with lots of thrust and could rise strongly in the forehand. AMOR did not have those strong movements from a stranger. Granddam Lenie H belonged to the stallion Heinitz- Heintze, a line known for the jumping ability of his offspring.
AMOR did not have his characteristic traits from strangers; the hardness, nobility and character came from sire's side; the movements and jumping ability came from dam's side.

dressage breeding stud
KWPN damline 102 / breeding family 236
NVDWhorses is breeding with the unique KWPN damline 102 / breeding family 236. The brown mare Hestia Sgldt 12280hb is the foundation mare of this damline. Her sire is Declamator GrPS 589Sgrt (Gambo OLD 325A / GrPS Prämienhengst pref x Simon GrPS 240A / GrPS/28G Prämienhengst). An origin with lots of traces to influential Holst genetics. NVDWhorses take Influential Holst genetical connections into account - more than average - when selecting stallions for their breeding program.
This damline has already delivered several approved stallions. I.e. Variant, Ulster, Elegant, Guelderson, Monarch, Organist and Bretzel Des Feeries. In 2002 "Saffier van D" (by Donnerhall) out of Diamant STV was appointed for the KWPN stallion performance test at Ermelo. Diamant STV is a full sister to Jade STV, dam of NVDWhorses foundation mare Nayade STV (Argus x Uniform x Eros).
Worth knowing: both KWPN approved pref stallion Negro and KWPN approved pref stallion Jazz are in the leading stallions top of the global dressage scene. Both KWPN approved stallion Variant - dam sire of Negro and KWPN approved stallion Ulster - dam sire of Jazz are descendants from this damline. This makes KWPN damline 102 / breeding family 236 not only unique, but also a very promising dressage breeding damline.
